Glass or Plastic Container

Glass

Glass is generally safer than plastic when it comes to food storage. You can heat and re-heat glass containers over and over without worrying about any chemical leaching into your food, and they’re more durable, so your containers won’t be dyed or smell like food residue after a while of use. When it does come time to retire your glass containers, they’re easier to recycle than their plastic counterparts, so you can rest easy knowing you’re still being eco-friendly.

Plastic

Plastic is the easiest, cheapest option for food storage, but not always the smartest even BPA FREE containers. The plastic container is a major environmental issue. Another big problem with plastic containers is the health risks that have been noted when plastics are heated.

Studies have found that certain chemicals in the plastic can leach out of the plastic and into the food and beverages we eat. Some of these chemicals have been linked to health problems such as metabolic disorders (including obesity) and reduced fertility. This leaching can occur even faster and to a greater degree when plastic is exposed to heat. This means you might be getting an even higher dose of potentially harmful chemicals simply by microwaving your leftovers in a plastic container.
